La Ruta de Los Conquistadores 2015 / 23rd Edition

DAY 01

 
Starting point: Playa Herradura, Central Pacific
Finish line: UTN-Atenas, near San José (Costa Rica´s capital).
Distance: 108.1 km (approx.)
Elevation Gain: 12,000 ft. / 3,400mts. (approx.)
Total Climbing: 12 meters (sea level) to 650 m to 1201m to 490m to 855m
Climate: Tropical Dry 30°C to 35°C.
 
The legendary Day 1 of La Ruta begins at 6:00AM and ends at 5:45PM, giving racers 11.5 hours to complete the 100km. It won’t be easy. The adventure begins at sea level, then you will climb mountains that reach up to 12,000 feet. This is why Day 1 is considered the make or break day of La Ruta. Expect all types of terrain, from mud to asphalt to rocky roads. Temperatures will be very high in the valleys (up to 105F) and low in the mountains.

Closing Time: 9:45 am 12:15 pm 2:15 pm 3:00 pm
For safety reasons, each Aid Station has a closing time. If you are not able to get to an Aid Station before the closing time, an official La Ruta vehicle will pick you up and take you to the finish line. You will be able to compete the remaining stages, however your name will not be listed in the official racer list and times at the end of La Ruta.
 
 
 

DAY 02

 
Starting point: UTN (Universidad Técnica Nacional) Atenas
Finish line: Guarco, Cartago
Distance: 90.8 km (approx.)
Elevation Gain: 13,780 ft. / 4,200mts. (approx.)
Total Climbing: 500 meters (over sea level) to 1250 m to 1750m to 2250m to 1500m
Climate: Tropical Dry 26°C to 15°C.
 
Day 2 of La Ruta begins at 5:30 am and gives competitors until 5:30pm to complete the stage. On this day tou will face very steep and rough climbs on asphalt and mud. There will be moments where you will have to carry your bike over your shoulders. You will experience very high temperatures, from 26C (72F) and very cold temperatures up to 15C (59F)

Distancie from race start: 21.7km 35.4km 48.4km 65.4km
Closing Time: 9:00 am 12:00 pm 2:15 pm 3:30 pm

DAY 03

 
Starting point: Siquirres, rafting take out from Río Pacuare
Finish line: Playa Bonita, Limón
Distance: 57 km (approx.)
Elevation Gain: 490 ft. / 150mts. (approx.)
Total Climbing: 80 meters (over sea level) to 30 m to 70m to 15m to 0m
Climate: Tropical Humid 30°C to 35°C.
 
Day 3 of La Ruta 2015 has the option of rafting in the Pacuare River. If you decide to take on the rafting adventure, you will begin the stage at Tres Equis in Turrialba and start biking from Siquirres. The stretch from Siquirres to Playa Bonita will have no climbing and will be mostly on gravel roads. You will experience very high temperatures with high degrees of humidity. It is very important to keep hydrated and keep your body temperature in check.
   
Stage begins at: with rafting 7:00 am / without rafting 12:30 pm
Finish line closes at: 5:30 pm
 

Aid Stations / Check Points

Place: Bataan Pantano
Distancie from race start: 20km 42.7km
Closing Time: 3:00 pm 4:30 pm
For safety reasons, each Aid Station has a closing time. If you are not able to get to an Aid Station before the closing time, an official La Ruta vehicle will pick you up and take you to the finish line. You will be able to compete the remaining stages, however your name will not be listed in the official racer list and times at the end of La Ruta.

  • Recomendamos a todos los competidores que deseen sus bicicletas transportadas a y desde la meta cada dia, adquirir el servicio de mecánica de 3 días que ofrece La Ruta de Los Conquistadores/Specialized. ($150)

  • También ofrecemos servicios de masajes luego de cada etapa en un toldo designado en el área de meta. Es preferible reservar su masaje ahora y no el día del evento ya que será sujeto a espacio.

  • Recuerde respetar las señalizaciones públicas, aunque ud se encuentre en una competencia el país seguirá su curso, no se cerrarán calles para esta actividad. Es muy importante que ud vele por su propia seguridad y es muy importante seguir solo los rótulos que indican el recorrido de La Ruta de Los Conquistadores.
